Skylar Grey, who co-wrote the Eminem and Rihanna smash, "Love the Way You Lie," is back with her new song, "C'Mon Let Me Ride." The singer/songwriter had plans to release an album back in 2011, but she went back to work on it and to change things up a bit. The result is well worth the wait.
Grey say down with ARTISTdirect.com as part of our exclusive See the Music series, where she talked about the genesis of the new song and how she's not a head down goth chick with a black cloud following her everywhere she goes. While there is a delightful darkness that defines some of her past work, she's actually has a multi-faceted personality, which is demonstrated by this song.
"It was something that fell out of the sky and I wasn't expecting that," she said of "C'Mon Let Me Ride."
She continued, "It was very different for me, style-wise, but I couldn't help but smile every time I heard it in the studio. I couldn't help but dance and have fun with it."
We agree. We bet you bust a move and groove while listening to this silly and fun dance jam.
Grey called the song "a refreshing change," since she is "not a Debbie Downer every day of my life."
Her pal Eminem appears in the song and when discussing his contribution, Grey calls him "Marshall," demonstrating their closeness. She said, "He has that part of his personality that is goofy, sarcastic and funny," which is why she wanted him to drop a verse on the song.
