R&B crooner Trey Songz sat down with ARTISTdirect.com for our exclusive See the Music series. He was ready, willing and able to discuss his butter smooth new single "Heart Attack" from Chapter V, which explores that rocky place in which all relationships inevitably end up. It's about a crossroads, if you will.
"It's that place you are in when you are in a relationship and you are walking on rocks trying to figure it out, at the breaking point or decide to be together forever," the singer said. "Anyone in a real relationship knows that it hurts to stay together, but you don't want to leave." We've all been there.
He explained why he chose a song of this tone and texture, saying, "It's the first single. I had come off a mixture and EP, and wanted to make sure he had a record that created separation in terms of sound structure," since albums are different entities than EPs or mixtapes.
Trey Songz also said that the album and the sound have an "arms open" feel and a new chapter sound, too. So the title totally makes sense.
His new album, Chapter V, is out Aug. 21.
