Belgium-born recording artist Selah Sue will release her self-titled debut album on Aug. 21 on Columbia Records. The album will introduce the US to Selah Sue's unique style – a distinctive blend of pop, soul, funk and reggae.
We want to sing her name to the "Peggy Sue" melody!
But back to her debut platter. The album's vivacious first single, "Raggamuffin," is available now via all U.S. digital retailers, and its corresponding video can be viewed below:
In anticipation of the upcoming release, Selah Sue is completing a brief tour supporting Beth Orton in select US cities.
But some more background info: Selah Sue began writing music in high school and, by the age of 22, found herself in recording sessions with hip-hop artist Nneka. Her first full-length album was completed in 2010. Praised by Elle (Belgium) as having an "impertinent sense of rhythm…refreshing frankness and a visceral passion for music," Selah's musical talents were acknowledged by Prince, who offered Selah a coveted support slot at his shows in Antwerp, Belgium. Selah has already taken home the prestigious French Mercury Prize and the public choice award at the 2012 European Border Breakers Awards, and now looks forward to bringing her inimitable music style to the United States.
