On Tuesday May 16th Selena Gomez took to her Instagram… an account with a record-breaking number of followers… and teased her fan base with snippets of a new song, presumed to be titled "Bad Liar".
The video shows the monitor of a 90s-style Panasonic VCR TV, the screen is filled with streaking lines, and a light blinks, suggesting that a tape is being rewound. In the background a synth-pop guitar melody plays, there are rhythmic handclaps, and things sound very promising as Ms Gomez adds to a week of already exciting pop releases.
The teasers, which you can see below, have no vocals but the artist has captioned her TV post '#BadLiar 5.18" which suggests the track will be released on Thursday, just two days after the teaser.
Just ahead of the video posts Gomez had shared a sequence of images of a mirror. On the mirror are a number of what appear to be lyrics: "Trying not to think about you," "Trying to play it coy" and "Trying to distract myself."
It's safe to assume that a track is being dropped tomorrow, and that it's called "Bad Liar". This will follow up Gomez's Kygo collaboration. In February of this year. "It Ain't Me," peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
With Ms. Gomez and Katy Perry both dropping release news this week it's a great time for pop fans to be alive.
