Shakira Visits Phoenix Because of Illegal Immigration Law

Colombian singer Shakira planned a visit to Phoenix on Thursday, thanks to the mounting concerns that a new state law cracking down on illegal immigration will lead to racial profiling. The tiny superstar planned to meet with Phoenix's chief of police and its mayor to learn more about how the law will be enforced if it does indeed go into effect this summer as planned. The bill was signed into law last Friday by Governor Jan Brewer, and it is one of the toughest laws on immigration. Even Barry O –that's Barack Obama, our fearless leader- questioned the law.
The law is raising an uproar of concern since it will be considered a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally and directs police to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they're illegal immigrants. It's harsh, that's for sure.
"Shakira is deeply concerned about the impact of this law on hardworking Latino families," her political and philanthropic advisor said. Most pop stars have an army of stylists, publicity agents and other assorted handlers. Shakira? She has a political and philanthropic advisor. Hey, it's better than having someone choose which shade of eye shadow looks best on her! The advisor continued, "She is coming to Arizona to try to learn more about how law enforcement is reacting to this new law and how we can ensure that people in the state of Arizona are not being targeted because of the color of their skin."
Shakira really is concerned over this matters, as she canceled other commitments to make the visit and also planned to meet with Hispanic families in Phoenix to see how they'd be affected by the law. Her advisor also said Shakira also sought to meet with Brewer during her visit to Phoenix, but that the governor's director of scheduling said the gov was booked.
Do you think Shakira can use her fame for good in this case? Do you think this law is good for citizen of Arizona or are you against it?
