Sia, Major Lazer & Bad Royale, Ryan Adams Lead Top Songs Of The Week - December 9th
Thu, 08 Dec 2016 14:45:42
We are now in the final stretch of the year - and, thanks to the newest 11-year-old pop sensation Cruz Beckham's debut single "If Every Day Was Christmas", some of us are already in the Christmas spirit. Other musicians are still pumping out some of their best non-Christmas-related songs. Sia has finally released the single for "Angel by the Wings", which was originally feature in the movie The Eagle Huntress, which initially premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in January.
Major Lazer teamed up with Bad Royale to release "My Number", and the track subsequently received 500,000 YouTube streams in 24 Hours. AFI dropped the third track from their forthcoming album, referred to as The Blood Album, which is their first record in four years. And that was only the beginning for a week filled with songs for just about everybody.
Here are our favorites:
Sia - "Angel by the Wings"
Sia's "Angel by the Wings" received its first public airing all the way back in January, but those of us who were unable to attend Sundance were unfortunately not able to hear the song. The single has finally been released, and it's a powerful ballad showing off a side of the singer-songwriter that is all too often forgotten.
Major Lazer & Bad Royale - "My Number"
Not only did Major Lazer & Bad Royale's "My Number" receive 500,000 YouTube streams in 24 hours, it also broke Spotify's play-counter. It seems like someone might actually challenge Drake for Spotify's most played artist of the year crown.
AFI - "Aurelia"
There is certainly less out there in the world of theatrical goth punk then there was in the heydey of AFI, but if anyone is going to bring it back it's these California veterans. "Aurelia" is the third track we've heard from the forthcoming, ominous Blood Album, and it may be the strongest yet. It's big and anthemic and features a massive vocal performance from Davey Havok.
Ryan Adams - "Do You Still Love Me"
Ryan Adams has finally announced his follow up to his Taylor Swift cover album, 1989. This week he debuted the record's first single, "Do You Still Love Me?". There just aren't many big rockers like this released anymore, and who doesn't like a little a little 80s nostalgia once in awhile.
Kristin Kontrol - "Baby Are You In?"
"Baby Are You In?" is seductive, dark, and just the kind of track you want to hear in the distance while following a skin-tight-dress-wearing woman into a dark cavern that supposedly leads to an underground Eastern European club long after midnight.
