It has been four long years since Icelandic post-rock sensations Sigur Rós have released a new album, so it's understandable why fans would grasps a hold of any new information that may even slightly suggest something new might be on the way. Over the weekend, the outfit shared a short teaser video for something called "Norðurogniður."
What it is? No one really is sure. However, we do know that "Norðurogniður" roughly translates to "North and down" or "Northward and downward." The phrase can also be translated as a kind of slang for 'Go to hell'. We also that if you click on the link in the YouTube description, you arrive at an address asking you to join the band's mailing address. After signing up for the mailing list, an email is sent containing the below photo of Sigur Rós.
According to a representative for the band, Sigur Rós band is not teasing a new album. What they are teasing, still remains to be seen. The Icelandic group last released Kveikur back in 2013. They are currently set to start touring North America in late May, with the first show occurring at Hangout Festival in Alabama. From there they will head out across the continent for the next month, finishing with a show Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York on June 17th. They will then head to New Zealand.
For a band as loved as Sigur Rós, any news is good news when it comes to new material, and we certainly can't wait to hear what they will bring to our ears next.
