Back in January, TV mogul and X Factor judge Simon Cowell announced that he planned to launch a new TV talent show with the aim of finding "the world's greatest DJs." Hopping on the EDM train, he was…
The format was going to be similar to X Factor, with spinners going needle-to-needle. Cowell had hoped to capitalize on the fact that EDM is huge in the U.S. right now.
He even called DJs "the new rock stars." It was a smart idea for a show, since EDM is so popular, but we weren't sure it would translate to a competition show.
According to the NME.com, Cowell was to work on the show via his own company Syco and the production group, Overbrook, which is owned by actor Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith.
But the show is now being scrapped since "Syco and Overbrook decided not to proceed together on a DJ-competition show," per Cowell's rep. Rumor is that they couldn't agree on the billing with the credits for the production.
