Singer/songwriter/pianist Vanessa Carlton – where's she been lately?- was bitten by a pit bull puppy while jogging in Northeastern Pennsylvania last weekend, according to dear old dad. So at least we know Miss Carlton exercises, since she's not released an album since 2007, an eternity in the "here today, gone tomorrow" pop world.
Ed Carlton told The Pocono Record that the his daughter, who had a hit, 'A Thousand Miles,' back in the early part of the last decade, was running on May 2. As she passed a neighbor's house, Bella, a 9-month-old pit bull, ran through its invisible fence and clamped his jaws on the singer's calf. She eventually made it home, despite a bleeding wound marked by five punctures.
The singer is on antibiotics and doctors are monitoring her for infections, but she is expected to make a full, miraculous recovery. Animal control officials have quarantined Bella in a precautionary measure against rabies or a change in behavior. Bella's owners, Ben and Jo Anne Teichberg, said Dad and Daughter Carlton said they wanted the dog put down after confronting them two days after the attack.
"They are branding Bella as a dangerous animal and want her put to death," Teichberg told the paper. "They said because Bella is a pit bull, it is known to be bad." Local authorities said that Carlton has not yet filed a written complaint about the dog.
Team Vanessa or Team Bella in this case? And WTF is an invisible fence?
