The living legend known as Slash—if you think he needs an introduction, then you should be embarrassed and ashamed of yourself—sat down with ARTISTdirect.com for this exclusive interview.
Open, candid, honest and engaging, Slash talks to ARTISTdirect.com editor and Dolor author Rick Florino about how he has been in bands since he was a teenager and that doing a solo record is a very liberating experience, since he can explore different styles and doesn't have to deal with anyone looking over his shoulder. Slash said that he loves being in a band and enjoys the gang mentality and the way the creativity flows in that scenario, but with his solo album, he was able to be like a movie producer, assembling a cast of characters to perform with him.
When you are an icon like Slash, you can pretty much guarantee that anyone you ask to work with you and appear on your album will say "yes" without thinking twice. There are clips of Motorhead's Lemmy, Ozzy Osbourne and Fergie in the studio with Slash included here, as well.
Slash speaks about the writing process—how he wrote music and thought about "who" would sound good singing it. He also reveals how he partnered up with Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge, too.
Slash even offers a little update about Velvet Revolver, too, saying the band has made leaps and bounds worth of progress as of late.
