Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has hinted that he may very well break up the band for good after finishing work on new music for two albums.

The chrome-domed singer is the sole original member of the current iteration. He is recording two new albums under the Pumpkins monikers and those may be the swan songs.

"When this process is over, I'm either going to bail on this ship for good, like 'I'm done,' or I'm going to have a new ship to sail on," Corgan told The Chicago Tribune about the future.

Corgan also spoke about artistic relevance, noting, "How do you say, 'I still matter'? How do you say, 'How does one of my contemporaries get treated like a contemporary artist, and how do I get treated like I'm supposed to play Siamese Dream for the rest of my life?' At some point, you've got to fight this fight or go away."

He doesn't want to be "that" guy forever, and we understand that artistic pursuit, which is one of continued integrity and relevance. Whatevs B. Corgan chooses to do, we will support him fully.

The two new Smashing Pumpkins albums are due out next year.

Do you think B. Corgan should shut the door on the Pumpkins for good?
