The bass guitar which was smashed to bits in Nirvana's video for their breakthrough, gamechanger smash hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit" will be auctioned off to a lucky bidder. Make that a lucky bidder with a fat wallet. It is expected to fetch at least $25,000 when it goes on the block. We'd say "under the hammer," which is an auction term, but...it looks like it already had a similar fate. Thanks, I'll be here all week.

It will be auctioned off via Christie's in London.

Late Nirvana leader Kurt Cobain trashed Krist Novoselic's bass, which was purchased at a pawn shop, in the iconic video. Novoselic nabbed the instrument on the cheap since he knew it would be destroyed during the shoot! That's what we call taking provisions. Better to smash a crappy instrument than one you paid a lot of lootcakes for.

The auction takes place on November 29.

What would you do with this instrument/item if you had the means to bid on it and won?
