Sheffield's own hard rock saviors are ready to conquer the entire genre with first single from new album.
This is going to be the year that Bring Me The Horizon becomes the biggest band in hard rock. The Sheffield, UK quintet—Oliver Sykes [lead vocals, programming], Lee Malia [lead guitar], Matt Kean [bass guitar], Matthew Nicholls [drums], and Jordan Fish [keyboards, vocals]—take Song of the Week with "Happy Song," the first track to be released from their forthcoming fifth full-length album. 2013's Sempiternal has moved over 300,000 copies worldwide, and it scored "Best Album" at the Alternative Press Music Awards. It saw them vault to a new plateau in the States, but "Happy Song" is poised to elevate them to headlining arenas over here. Why is that? Well, the song is that impassioned, infectious, and impenetrable for starters.
The distinct guitar buzz bleeds in tandem with a keyboard swell and booming percussive bounce. The music stands out, adding a new depth to modern hard rock. This is the next level. It's futuristic, fiery, and focused. Over this distinct sonic backdrop, Sykes delivers an unshakable refrain, "But if I sing along a little f***ing louder to a happy song, I'll be alright." It's immediately chantable, but it's also unique bringing a different dimension to the genre.
Bring Me The Horizon are the band that everyone's been waiting for to step up and take over. They're not just retreading the past. They're adding something new to the hard rock lexicon. They do things on their own terms too. This next album will be that kind of turning point moment for them like System of a Down's Toxicity or Korn's Follow the Leader when the game completely changes in their hands. It starts with "Happy Song."
