fun. frontman goes solo with a song whose potential is hysterically huge…

Nate Ruess takes Song of the Week with his new single "AhHa." It's the single for his forthcoming solo debut, Grand Romantic [Fueled By Ramen], out June 16, and it stands proudly alongside his biggest hits. The fun. frontman's distinct voice possess a cinematic expanse and orchestral bombast that's unlike anything on the radio. It's that depth which made "We Are Young" such a massive smash and led to two Grammy Awards—"Best New Artist" and "Song of the Year." There's something to be said for doing your own thing, and that's what Ruess has done since day one. That timbre belongs to him alone, and he uses it to create unshakable anthems that are as explosive as they are engaging. Even when he's teaming up with Eminem for a track like "Headlights," he continually separates himself. That brings us to "AhHa."

Now the production itself with the schizophrenically soothing laughs and whip snaps immediately proves ear-catching. However, once Nate's voice coasts along the verses and collides into that big hook, we've got a huge hook worthy of his resume. It not only augments his catalog to date, but it ushers him on to the next plateau as well.

The world's been searching for a superstar like this. He can tune into that fire that makes the world move, but he's got something to say and he does so on his own terms. "AhHa" is that sort of a statement in terms of the sonics and delivery. It's his best musical moment thus far and a gigantic indicator that Grand Romantic could reach classic status upon release.

We'll be laughing along with him when it does too.
