San Diego rock outfit unleashes first single 2012's landmark Collide With The Sky, and it's utterly divine
Rock music already has its new leader, and it's Pierce the Veil. The quartet—Vic Fuentes [lead vocals, guitars, keyboards], Mike Fuentes [drums], Tony Perry [guitar], and Jaime Preciado [bass]—delivers an infectious, inimitable, and invigorating anthem in the form of "The Divine Zero." It's the group's first single since 2012's breakout Collide with the Sky, which yielded the gold-certified "King For A Day" [feat. Kellin Quinn]. Now, they're out headlining Warped Tour, and they just unveiled the latest track, kicking off their next phase and laying the groundwork for album number four out later this year via Fearless Records. "The Divine Zero" takes Song of the Week and rightfully so.
The single sees Pierce The Veil expand on everything that set them apart in the first place. The guitars possess a calculated intensity that's delightfully melodic yet appropriately heavy, while the rhythms lock into a big bombastic bass and drum groove meant to move arenas and festival grounds. At the center, Vic sounds undeniable. His entire range stands on display here, careening from the explosive verses into an unshakable refrain. As a result, they turn out their biggest and best song yet. You can feel the evolution here too as the song segues off into a jammed out ethereal passage towards the end, representing that progression and evolution. Fans will undoubtedly be singing this one back to them at the top of their lungs for a long time to come.
