Former Three Days Grace singer Adam Gontier and Staind guitarist Mike Mushok return with a bang on official debut single from new band.
Saint Asonia capture Song of the Week with their brilliant and bruising battering ram of a first single "Better Place." The project unites two of modern hard rock's most powerful forces—namely ex-Three Days Grace lead singer Adam Gontier and Staind lead guitarist Mike Mushok—with Rich Beddoe [ex-Finger Eleven] on drums and bassist/background vocalist Corey Lowery [Dark New Day, Stereomud, Eye Empire]. The project also received an intriguing rollout rarely seen in rock music. Audiences actually received a cool surprise. At first, a shadowy video touted the members' accolades with a clip of "Better Place" before the formal announcement at the end of this past week. Now, fans get a heavy, heartfelt, and hypnotic first declaration from the group.
Mushok's calculated guitar intro adds veritable tension to the track as Gontier's voice transfixes right from the beginning. Beddoe lays down an appropriately bombastic groove bolstered by Lowery's walloping bass. The middle of the song features a melodic and metallic lead that shows the expanse of Mushok's formidable fret prowess. It's one of the most searing solos we've heard from him, while the singer's delivery feels passionate, punchy, and powerful all at once. All of these elements merge onto one searing and scorching anthem properly declaring new rock saviors.
