Metal stalwarts get heavier for a new era...
Stryper achieve Song of the Week with "Fallen"—the title track of their eighth full-length studio album (sixteenth in total) out October 16 via Frontiers. The iconic Grammy-nominated and Dove Award-winning multiplatinum rockers—Michael Sweet [lead vocals, lead guitar], Robert Sweet [drums], Oz Fox [guitar, vocals], and Timothy Gaines [bass, vocals]—cranked out an epic back in 2013 with No More Hell to Pay. It summoned the energy of classics like "To Hell with the Devil," but saw the band find its footing in a new century with a new ferocity. Fallen brings all of that to the next level. It's got the same kind of sweeping, cinematic scope, but there's a renewed vigor, fire, and heaviness, all marks of a band more confident in its charge than ever before.
The title track sees Michael's voice elevated with grace and gusto, while the guitar ferocity never relentless. Robert manages to hold down quite the percussive backdrop in tandem with Timothy's rattling bass punch. Oz and Michael make for quite the formidable six-string twosome to this day, never wavering.
This is just a hint at what's to come on the album. We've heard and can tell you 100 percent it's the group's best yet. For now, enjoy Fallen and countdown the day.
