Hear some indie space rock funk from this SoCal band in this exclusive.
Want a dose of indie space rock funk? Well, raise your hands to the sun, since you're getting it from Attic Empire. We are premiering their song "Hands Unto the Sun" from Astro Getaway, out now.
Who are Attic Empire? They are a dynamic, seven-piece, space funk musical collective from Los Angeles California that fuses ska, indie rock, soul, funk and jazz.
There is a lot going on, delightfully so.
Consisting of Tyler Connaghan (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Nick Aguilera (lead guitar), Brandon Shulkin (bass), Robert Conrad (drums), Gabe Joven (trumpet), Raymond Fong (trombone) and Mowi Debretsion (tenor saxophone, keyboards), the band was formed by the members while still in high school for the 2011 Battle of the Bands at House of Blues Hollywood.
They've been playing and making music since 2011!
"The song is about a friend who passed away," the band told us, offering some personal insight into the track. "He was the kind of guy who did things his way no matter what others thought. He lived his life to the fullest. It encompasses how death is one of the things we mourn, though it's something we know nothing about. The obscurity of the next life could be beyond anything we know, good or bad, and to live every day like it's your last (though it may sound cliche) is an idea that should resonate with everyone."
That's some pretty deep stuff. We mourn death, even though we have not experienced it and won't until we end up on the other side.
But overall, the person who inspired the song represents how we should all live our lives: to the fullest, without caring what others think. Amen to that.
With that in mind, crank the song and enjoy it! Put your "Hands Unto the Sun."
