It's a melancholic, celestial and dreamy jam that will lull you into a relaxed state of being.
Texas-based indie duo Rising Fawn features guitarist/vocalist Chauntelle DuPree-D'Agostino of Eisley and her husband, guitarist Todd D'Agostino, owner and luthier of Larose Guitars.
They will release their debut full-length, Sifting Through Sadness, on August 28 via Rory Records. Rory Records is actually the imprint of Max Bemis of Say Anything and is partnered with long-standing, iconic indie label Equal Vision Records. We're premiering Rising Fawn's song "Jeremy Enigk" and it's a lushly melancholic and achingly beautiful ode named after Sunny Day Real Estate singer Jeremy Enigk.
But the song is not an ode to the OG emo singer. It's a celebration of God, actually. More on that shortly...
Do you like Mazzy Star? Björk? Sarah McLachlan? Then you will absolutely adore the head-down, shoegazing music of Rising Fawn and "Jeremy Enigk," since DuPree-D'Agostino's voice siphons elements from all of those gorgeous, aforementioned singers, resulting in a breathily impactful style that is decidedly her own.
DuPree-D'Agostino is quite the chanteuse. Her voice drips with a celestial and icy emotion. Her reverb-laden vocals float dreamily over the multiple moving parts that live underneath. If this is indeed the voice of an angel, then we want an express, one-way ticket to heaven... now!
DuPree-D'Agostino expounded upon the spiritual depth of the song, saying, "This song is about a dream I had years ago. I woke up and wrote it down. It basically explains my relationship with The Lord. I believe He is THE creator of all things. He is THE artist and we are the work of His hands. Therefore, I strive daily to be in His will; to be a 'vessel in motion.' I find my purpose in Him."
The singer also explained the not-so-quirky origin of the title, saying, "The name of the song came about years later as I was working it out with my guitar and the chords and melody reminded me of something Jeremy Enigk would write, so I named it after him, just as a demo. I've always been a fan of everything Mr. Enigk has done and he's an artist that I've always thought deserved more attention then he received! So I decided to keep the demo name, in honor of him!"
Rising Fawn spent 2014 crafting the album, which was recorded at Eisley's home studio in Texas and mixed and mastered by Darren King of Mutemath. The album is a hauntingly beautiful album with special guest instrumentation and vocals from Max Bemis (Say Anything), Darren King (Mutemath), Sherri DuPree-Bemis (Eisley), and Christie DuPree (Merriment).
Let Rising Fawn's "Jeremy Enigk" wash over you like waves! It is a dreamy, sparkling song that will lull you into an altered state of consciousness.
