Song Review: Cane Hill – "Sunday School"

New Orleans metal outfit delivers a new kind of sermon.
Cane Hill's "Sunday School" single for Rise Records packs a whole lot of intensity into one irresistible diatribe. The New Orleans quintet—Elijah Witt [vocals], Bemo Barnett [guitar], James Barnett [guitar], Ryan Henriquez [bass], and Devin Clark [drums]—drop grooves like a guillotine on this distinctly metallic maelstrom.
"Keep your faith if you want," Elijah intones just before seizing up into a corrosively catchy chorus. The video features the boys in a church tearing it up with the kind of intensity that defines legacies. Cane Hill veer into new territory by merging a swinging chug with a marked vitriol that practically explodes on impact. A lot of info around the Louisiana band stands shrouded in the musical marsh, and it's quite fascinating to see a band drumming up a buzz without all of the trappings and machinations of the hype machine blowing at full tilt. These guys have some mystery in the metal, and that's welcome.
Cane Hill gospel is unlike anything else out there. Get ready to see the word and as they say, "Welcome to the asylum."
