Song Review: Hopsin "Crown Me"

White contacts in, mic on fire, Los Angeles spitter goes hard on first single from Pound Syndrome, out July 24.
Hopsin spares nobody with his razor sharp flow on "Crown Me." It's a torrential assault of lyrics and energy as he vies for the throne on the very first single of his forthcoming fourth full-length studio album, Pound Syndrome [Funk Volume/Warner Bros. Records], out July 24. Truth is, he's one of the most nimble wordsmiths in the game, consistently deliver tight, tough, and technical bars that instantly elevate him above the pack.
If you're familiar with any of his work, especially 2013's phenomenal Knock Madness, you know just how impressive this man's skills are. However, "Crown Me" literally proves to be his "crowning moment to date." His speed never relents as he deftly cuts in and out of verses like the sly, "You want me to keep it to a minimal with the syllables?"
The answer is a resounding, "No!" There are a few MCs this fast and furious who can still carry a hook. It's mainly just Tech N9ne and Twista. Add Hopsin to that list because beyond the verbal acrobatics that refrain remains unshakable. You want to hand him the keys to the castle right then and there.
If this is any indication, the rap world is in for a serious treat when the king arrives with Pound Syndrome.
