Michigan rock stalwarts keep the genre's heart beating with hyper energetic new single.
Pop Evil are proof that rock 'n' roll is alive and well. Their success and story continually reiterates that point no matter how much the media and "popular" culture cacophonously enthuses, "Rock is dead." It certainly isn't dead, and these Michigan boys show its lifeblood once more with "Footsteps"—the first single from their fourth full-length album, UP, out August 21 through eOne Music.
In case you needed to be brought up to speed, the band—Leigh Kakaty [lead vocals], Nick Fuelling [lead/rhythm guitar], Dave Grahs [rhythm/lead guitar], Matt DiRito [bass], and John Marunde AKA Chachi Riot [drums]—have spent the past couple years packing houses as a headliner and on festivals supporting 2013's phenomenal Onyx. That particular album boasted the hits "Trenches" and "Deal With The Devil" both of which went to #1 at Rock Radio. Yup, you've heard them, and you most likely love them if you have! However, "Footsteps" ups the ante again with Pop Evil's catchiest and most charismatic salvo to date.
Artful guitars ebb and flow in unison with Kakaty's undeniable delivery. Quickly, everything pops into one massive hook, before descending back into a hypnotic crescendo. Those dynamics solidify Pop Evil as a bona fide rock force to be reckoned with yet again.
Pop Evil are on the verge of releasing what's shaping up to be their biggest, boldest, and best piece yet with UP. Rock 'n' roll will be better for it.
