The ongoing, and widely-publicized legal battle between Kesha and producer Dr. Luke is rumored to have undermined the producer's business ties with his label, Sony.
While Entertainment Weekly claims that Dr. Luke, born Lukasz Gottwald "Still has a relationship" with Sony. The Hollywood Reporter states that the producer responsible for making hits for the likes of Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson, has been removed as CEO from Sony's Kemosabe imprint and "no longer has the authority" to act on its behalf. The Sony website dedicated to the work of Dr. Luke has also been removed.
Back in March of 2016, as the legal issues with Kesha were coming to a head, it was rumored that Sony would be dropping the producer. A highly public, and deeply messy court battle that extended back to 2014 when Kesha filed a lawsuit in which she claimed that Gottwald had physically and sexually abused her from the time he signed his deal with Kemosabe Records in 2005.
Gottwald has maintained his innocence throughout the court case, and filed a defamation suit against Kesha in which he accuses the singer of extortion, claiming that she was simply suing him in order to escape her record contract ahead of the agreed-upon date. Adele, Lady Gaga and Demi Lovato are amongst the fans and musicians who have come to Kesha's aid as part of the #freeKesha movement.
Regardless of incredible public support, Kesha has been ruled against in the court — it has been stated that she is prohibited from breaking her contract, and severing her ties with her former producer and Sony. Another judge ruled that the alleged abuse doesn't constitute a 'hate crime'.
Neither Kesha nor Sony and Gottwald have issued official statements on the matter.
