Rapper Soulja Boy is suing his former manager, Philip Ransom, claiming that he was coerced into signing "unconscionable, oppressive, and unjust" contracts. Ut oh. That doesn't sound good.
Here's the deets, as provided by TMZ. Soulja Boy said the deals gave his team five percent of his income and another 50 percent of his music copyrights to his record label. Ouch. That's not beneficial for the rapper, at all. Artists make money from the royalties from their copyrights of songs.
He is also arguing that the deal is "commercially unreasonable" and at odds with industry standards in 2011. That is, he feels it's unfair and he can't make a living under these terms. Soulja Boy filed suit in Georgia Superior Court.
Ransom has filed his own suit against the rapper, saying he is owed money from his time working for Soulja Boy. Tit for tat.
Team Soulja Boy or Team Philip Ransom?
