Steven Spielberg has revealed that Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War will be the subjects of his next epic film for DreamWorks. The famed director may begin shooting the period piece as early as 2009, due to an already full plate of films in his immediate future.
The Lincoln/Civil War script was written by playwright Tony Kushner, who also wrote Angels in America and previously collaborated with Spielberg on Munich. Towering actor Liam Neeson is set to star as Lincoln, having agreed to play the role over three years ago. Spielberg and Neeson previously collaborated on one of Spielberg's many triumphs, the celebrated Schindler's List.
Spielberg has a busy 2008 to contend with. In addition to promoting the surefire blockbuster Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the director will shoot Tintin, based on a popular European comic strip, in the fall.
