There is experimental and then there is experimental.
Spiritualized's Jason Pierce recorded the band's new album Sweet Heart Sweet Light while suffering from liver disease and taking an experimental drug.
He told The Guardian that he has been enduring weekly injections and pills to survive. "I found out I had long-term liver disease. My liver was pretty gone, basically," he admitted. He also shared that he has been on the same course of experimental medicine that leukemia patients take. "I decided to make a record on these drugs," he said.
That certainly adds a whole new element to the album, with Pierce saying, "The further I get away from the treatment the more I feel it wasn't me making that record. It was like I wasn't in my own head. It was made in such weird conditions, it's hard for me to get a handle on it."
