Green Day Photos
Thanksgiving week has been stuffed with some of our favorite music videos of the year so far. The visuals unveiled this week were certainly not your run of the mill clips; instead, viewers were treated to some serious eye candy.
One end of the spectrum was Selena Gomez in a steamy and suggestive new video. On the other end comes the return of Ssion, and the strange intrigue that accompanies anything he unveils. Green Day, meanwhile, paid tribute to a classic cult film.
Pink wasn't to be outdone this week, as she teamed up with Channing Tatum for one of the most fun-filled videos of the year so far, and A Perfect Circle decided to go the opposite direction to deliver something elegantly stark. So without further ado, here are ARTISTdirect's top music videos of the week:
Ssion — "Comeback"
Ssion is back and to the surprise of no one, he has delivered one of the freshest and strangest videos of the year so far. People painted like cows, punk-rock boy-band tryouts, coffee cup hallucinations, this is all pretty much par for the course from a guy who is known for producing some of the most memorable music videos of the last several years. It doesn't hurt that "Comeback" also happens to just spew confidence everywhere, breathing new life into pop.
Green Day — "Back in the USA"
If you haven't seen John Carpenter's They Live, then you're probably still chewing bubblegum. Green Day, on the other hand, is busy kickin' a** by using the cult flick to help inspire a masterful clip for "Back in the USA". Green Day have just released their new greatest hits album, God's Favorite Band, and though the title might seem a bit hyperbolic, at least we know the band still has decent taste in movies.
P!nk — "Beautiful Trauma"
In the video for Pink's "Beautiful Trauma", the Billboard chart-topping singer plays a 1950's housewife opposite Channing Tatum as her husband. All might seem a bit Pleasantville-esque in the beginning but this new video quickly removes any of those illusions. The clip finds the duo breaking out into spontaneous dance sequences, drinking too many cocktails, and having a little frisky fun with dancer Nikki Tuazon. And that's only the beginning.
A Perfect Circle — "The Doomed"
A Perfect Circle is currently working on their first album since 2014, and have now released the visuals for their newest track, "The Doomed". The simple, straightforward clip directed by Jeremy Danger and Travis Shinn finds each band member spending time in front of the camera, generally alone, with no backdrop and little movement. There is something to be said for clarity, and for a song this direct, the video pairs up just right.
Selena Gomez, Marshmello — "Wolves"
Selena Gomez seems to be getting more and more provocative. In her new video for "Wolves", the singer takes a steamy shower while fully aware she is being watched by surveillance cameras. The video was initially premiered exclusively on Apple Music, but now it is available to all via YouTube. We certainly appreciate her newfound direction, and we wonder if Marshmello is providing Gomez with new influence.
