St. Louis Declares August 29 "Jeff Tweedy Day"

August 29 is "Jeff Tweedy Day" in St. Louis in honor of the Wilco frontman and local boy done good. It is worth noting, though, that Tweedy is not from St. Louis proper! That didn't stop Mayor Francis G. Slay from officially honoring the Wilco frontman in conjunction with his solo performance at the city's Loufest. Slay made the announcement just hours before a 90-minute concert by Tweedy, a native of nearby Belleville, Illinois. He's from nearby. Does that count?
Tweedy joked to the crowd that the proclamation was "the stupidest thing I've ever heard." I might be inclined to agree, though only because he is not technically from the city. I guess close enough is good enough to have your own day in a city.
Hey, if they ever want t have an "Amy Sciarretto Day" in New Jersey, or in Philly, which is four miles from my hometown, I will surely take it and think it is the smartest thing I've ever heard. Enjoy the accolade, Jeff!
