St. Vincent has finally given fans the news that they've been waiting to hear. Annie Clark, speaking with Guitar World, announced that the follow-up to her 2014 self-titled album will be released in the spring of 2017.
Clark promises that her fifth album will be the 'deepest and boldest' album she can make. Speaking on a long and drawn out process in making the album the songwriter said that the results represented a real sea change in her sound.
"I've been able to step back and reflect and not just be in the tour, record, tour, record cycle that I've been in for about 10 years. I think it'll be the deepest, boldest work I've ever done. I feel the playing field is really open for creative people to do whatever you want, and that risk will be rewarded—especially now that we have such high stakes from a political and geo-political standpoint. The personal is political and therefore the political can't help but influence the art. And only music that has something pretty real to say is gonna cut the mustard."
Clark has been making the news recently, since soundtracking a couple of movie projects. She has soundtracked a short film from Kristen Stewart. "Come Swim", which Stewart made as part of Refinery29's female filmmaker-focused Shatterbox Anthology series. Clark also has music featured in XX, an anthology of horror films made entirely by women writers and directors.
