Anne Erin Clark, better known by her stage name St. Vincent, has contributed a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Emotional Rescue" to the upcoming soundtrack for A Bigger Splash. Starring Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes, the film depicts the relationship between a famous rocker and her filmmaker boyfriend. The movie is directed by longtime Swinton collaborator Luca Guadagnino.
Sexy, sultry, and more loose than her 2014 self-titled album, the track is full of funk, thanks in part to Kendrick Lamar/Kamasi Washington collaborator Terrace Martin, who plays sax on it.
In an informal newsletter, Clark expressed her excitement about the song and the team she worked with on it. "i saw an 11 AM showing of ‘i am love' at the sunshine cinema on houston street. i walked out of the theater in a daze, wandered into a nearby church, found the last pew, and wept for an hour. so when luca asked me to be involved in his latest film, i said yes a thousand times and then once more. luca, tilda fucking swinton, ralph, matthias, dakota– all made a beautiful film. so proud to have worked with sounwave(!!!) and terrace martin(!!!) on this stones track. they are a dream team. hope you enjoy."
St. Vincent won the award for Best Alternative Music Album for St. Vincent at last year's GRAMMYs. The GRAMMYs air tonight at 5 p.m. Pacific Time on CBS, live from Los Angeles' the Staples Center.
