St. Vincent, Maroon 5, & Spoon Are Ageless In Top Music Videos Of The Week - October 6
Fri, 06 Oct 2017 08:54:22
Even now in just this first week of October, it seems like summer ended ages ago. Artists took the seasonal changes to heart, debuting new clips full of soft blues and fiery reds that all remind us of fall.
Spoon unveiled a performance video for "I Ain't the One" that is soaked in dark seasonal blues. Smerz decided that lighting things on fire was the best way to keep warm now that the season has changed. Meanwhile, Maroon 5 decided it would rather ponder what it was like to be a deer, or a flower, or a squirrel.
St. Vincent took a look at vanity within our culture in her newest video. And Haim celebrated autumn by going line dancing in Los Angeles. So without further ado, here are ARTISTdirect's top music videos of the week:
St. Vincent - "Los Ageless"
Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, highlights our culture's obsession with looks in her newest video for her single, "Los Ageless". Directed by Willo Perron, the clip features the artist receiving injections, recovering from a nose job, stretching in unique yoga poses, and eating questionably bizarre, presumably organic and detoxifying foods. The video was released in advance of St. Vincent's forthcoming album, Masseduction, due out next Friday, October 13th
Maroon 5 - "What Lovers Do" [ft. SZA]
Maroon 5 have just announced their follow up to 2014's V. Titled Red Pill Blues, the album will be out November 3rd and is executive produced by J. Kash, with pecial guest appearances by SZA, Julia Michaels, A$AP Rocky, and LunchMoney Lewis. This week we received the video for "What Lover Do" [ft. SZA]. The clip starts out with young kids frolicking in a field, while Levine sings in the form of a deer, a sunflower, and a squirrel. It's another colorful piece from the band, always dependable for impressive, moving visual displays.
Spoon - "I Ain't the One"
Spoon released their ninth studio album, Hot Thoughts, back in March, and, to no one's surprise, it was quite good. Now that it's fall, the band has sent out a quick reminder to everyone via a video for "I Ain't the One". Directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, the blues bent track is re-born into a cool moonlit sapphire toned clip. It may be a simple performance video, but it's certainly a handsome one.
Haim - "Little of Your Love"
Haim's sophomore LP, Something to Tell You, came out back in July, but it wasn't till this week that the album's second single, "Little of Your Love", received a video. Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the clip finds Haim taking to the floor for a full-fledged line dance at the famed L.A. Valley bar Oil Can Harry's. It's another joyful piece from the sister trio who continue to get audiences on their feet.
Smerzs - "No Harm"
The Norwegian duo Smerz are quickly becoming one of the underground music scene's most loved groups. Their mix of R&B and slow electronic beats creates a smouldering sound that envelops listeners. This week they continued their gradual burn to the top with the fiery new video for "No Harm". Either shot with night vision or lit by a raging blaze, this video will continue to sizzle in your mind long after the smoke has cleared.
