    • Aaron Lewis - In some ways, Staind's triumphant set at "Epicenter 2011" is emblematic of their journey. They were never into press posturing, awards show bullshit, or trying to be something they're not. They write timeless songs like "Eyes Wide Open", "Spleen", "Mudshovel", and "Something to Remind You" and kick teeth in when they hit stage. Isn't that everything a hard rock band should do? Well, they do it better than anyone… - Rick Florino

"Do you feel like you're falling?" asks Aaron Lewis at the beginning of "Not Again", the first single from Staind's forthcoming self-titled seventh album.

An uncontainable anger rises from the very question itself due to the singer's palpable, potent conviction and unabashed honesty. Often bands will say that they're returning to their roots, but few can actually capture the initial energy at their earliest inception and transmute it into something fresh.

However, Staind has not only captured that proverbial lightning in a bottle, but they've emerged with a record that's even heavier than their classic first two offerings, Tormented and Dysfunction. It's heavier because the band have evolved so much and have attacked the new material with years of road and studio experience—not to mention progressed songwriting.

"Not Again" is going to ravage heavy music like a tornado. Intricate, infectious guitars from Mike Mushok spin out into an ominous bass chug from Johnny "Old School" April. Mushok's pummeling staccato riff on the refrain roars brutally, while Lewis's chorus stands alongside the band's best hooks. Then there's Mushok's solo. It drops from a spacey blues-style break into face-ripping shredding, illuminating just how much of a virtuoso he really is. He's one of the best guitarists and the planet, and this record further cements his place at the top.

At the same time, there is no voice out there (in any genre) that's as powerful as Aaron Lewis's. He pours every bit of himself into this song and it's so unnervingly beautiful you won't be able to stop singing along. Lewis continues to carry songs to divine heights, while dropping them down to hell deftly when he needs to.

Fall into "Not Again" because it's the only thing that'll prepare you for the masterpiece Staind is about to drop on September 13, 2011—STAIND.
