For any coffee drinker that patronizes one of the 10,000 Starbucks stores in 29 countries, they'll hear Paul McCartney's newest album Memory Almost Full playing over the speaker system. All day, at all times. The coffee chain announced that it will promote the former Beatles' latest offering on a loop throughout the day in every store to coincide with its release date. This tactic may either inspire impulse purchases or drive employees insane.
"Once we heard the album... we just knew this was a phenomenal record," said Ken Lombard, president of Starbucks' entertainment division, which co-founded McCartney's new label Hear Music. "It's such a reflection of his life and his career, I mean, the ups and downs and the recognition of really what a remarkable journey it has been. So it was really for us the perfect fit."
"The relationship is going very well between us, and it is our hope that Paul is feeling the same way," Lombard contined. "When the time is right, we'll talk about what the next steps are going to be beyond this, but right now our focus is doing everything we can to ensure that Memory Almost Full is an extraordinary success." Lombard also added that while McCartney is the label's only signing, they plan on signing two more artists this year and then eight more next year.
