Steve Buscemi Teams Up With Martin Scorsese

Steve Buscemi, who enjoyed both an on-screen and a directorial run with the mega-popular Sopranos, is returning to HBO. The actor is in talks to star in the pilot for Boardwalk Empire, a Jersey shore-themed drama from famed director Martin Scorsese.

The pilot was written by Terrence Winter and will be directed by Scorsese himself. It's based on Nelson Johnson's book Empire, which tells the story of the 1920s origins of the East Coast casino mecca that is Atlantic City, New Jersey. Buscemi would play the role of Nucky Johnson, a liquor distributor during the onset of Prohibition.

Scorsese will also executive produce the pilot alongside Mark Wahlberg, who was nominated for an Oscar for his supporting role in Scorsese's The Departed. Kelly MacDonald is also in talks to star in the pilot. She would play Margaret, an Irish immigrant who married the wrong man in order to escape the clutches of her family.
