Tue, 29 May 2012 10:28:42
Country outlaw Steve Earle will curate and host Woodyfest at the City Winery in New York City on July 11, 12 and 13. The three-night series of intimate concerts will feature Steve Earle, Billy Bragg, Allen Toussaint, Tim Robbins, John Hammond, Rachel Yamagata, Amy Helm, The Wood Brothers and more performing songs written or inspired by Woody Guthrie.
The intimate concerts will be held in celebration of Woody Guthrie's 100th Birthday and a portion of the proceeds will benefit The Woody Guthrie Foundation. Tickets are on sale now at the City Winery box office and citywinery.com.
Steve Earle stated "It's an honor to be a part of a weeklong celebration of Woody's 100th birthday and his life in New York City." Woody's daughter, Nora Guthrie, added, "Steve Earle first invoked Woody's name a few years back with the powerful lyric 'Christmas In Washington,' asking him to 'rise again somehow.' I guess we all got the memo! Woody is presently appearing throughout 2012 in all shapes, forms, sizes and languages, from California to the New York Island and across the pond."
