The Bigger Bang worldwide tour has been a bit of a circus for The Rolling Stones, highlighted (or lowlighted) by Ron Wood's dalliance with rehab, and Keith Richards falling out of a coconut tree. Despite the setbacks, though, it has also been a smashing success at the box office -- which has the gentlemen considering an extension of the tour into 2007.
"We're gonna have a well-needed break over Christmas, and then we'll go back out, probably, next year," said Wood, who is promoting the September 26th release of his Anthology collection, featuring the best cuts from his solo career along with selected material from his work with The Birds, The Faces, and the Jeff Beck Group.
The Stones had to cancel a series of shows while Richards recovered from his accident, and those dates are one of the primary factors behind the change in schedule (the "Bigger Bang" had been slated to end in November). The tour is already on track to become the highest-grossing tour in history.
"We'll probably do some Europe; we owe them some dates," Wood said, adding that he was "loving" how the Stones were sounding these days. He also loves Richards' new alter ego: Pirate Keef. Richards, who inspired Johnny Depp's "Jack Sparrow" character, is playing Depp's father in the final film of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy.
"He's gonna come to the next rehearsal in Boston dressed in his pirate gear," Wood enthused. "I said, 'Well, promise me one thing -- you won't get out of character.' It's gonna be perfect."
