The Rolling Stones have gotten one up on U2 and reclaimed their title for putting on the highest-grossing concert tour in history: $437 million for "A Bigger Bang," which began in the fall of 2005 and is expected to keep chugging into 2007. The Stones had previously held the same mark after ringing up $320 million during their 1994-95 "Voodoo Lounge" tour, but U2 recently shot past them with their ongoing "Vertigo" tour, which is expected to cash out at around $377 million after a series of makeup dates in December.
During the course of 110 shows, the Stones have played for approximately 3.5 million people. That number doesn't include their biggest event of the year, a free show in Rio de Janeiro in February, where somewhere around two million Brazilians (and guests) sprawled along Copacabana Beach to watch the rock icons on stage -- or on the giant projection screens that were set up to accommodate the overflow.
