How sugary sweet it is! Country superstar duo Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush - fresh off of winning the award for Top Vocal Duo of the Year at the 46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards - debuted their Sugarland Radio station on the virtual airwaves yesterday. Listeners can tune in to Sugarland Radio's debut on A.P.E. Radio at www.iheartradio.com/sugarland, Clear Channel Radio's "iheartradio" network, and the iheartradio mobile app, giving fans a glimpse into the creative minds of Sugarland, winners of multiple Grammy, CMA and ACM Awards with more than eight million records sold.
"I'm so excited to give fans this look behind the curtain at Sugarland and show what makes Kristian and me tick," said Nettles. "People may be surprised about some of our musical influences, and we've got some great stories to share."
Sugarland Radio, programmed by Nettles and Bush themselves, is available to fans all over the world, and features plenty of hit Sugarland tracks, including songs from their latest and most adventurous fourth album, The Incredible Machine. Plus, fans hear all of Sugarland's favorite songs - everything from the alternative sounds of Arcade Fire, Coldplay and Band of Horses to classics like The Cure, R.E.M. and Al Green, as well as the countrified twang of Steve Earle and Emmylou Harris. In addition to eclectic playlists of tunes from across the musical spectrum, Sugarland Radio also lets fans listen in on conversations with Nettles and Bush, as they discuss topics including songwriting and keeping a journal; stories from traveling to various countries they've visited; their current interest in "nostalgic" items from their youth such as record players, pencils and rotary phones; charity causes that Jennifer is involved with; and even the first time Kristian's old band got to open for INXS.
With The Incredible Machine, Sugarland has created a soaring new album elevated by sky-high choruses, ringing guitars, and pulsing drums that recall the beating of the album's titular engine, the human heart. Co-written and co-produced in full by Jennifer and Kristian, The Incredible Machine continues exploring the grander side of country that was represented on their last record, the double platinum Love on the Inside. With the new album, the pair has found shared inspiration in iconic 1980s music and films such as director John Hughes' movies and songs by Blondie, Peter Gabriel, The Pretenders and The Clash. Led by the powerhouse rocker "Wide Open," written specifically for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, the album carefully balances country and pop, anthems and ballads, while remaining above all an authentic record from Sugarland's heart.
Sugarland Radio will be distributed across Clear Channel Radio's "iheartradio" network, which includes hundreds of local radio websites; the popular iheartradio mobile app, which has been downloaded more than 25 million times; widgets; and www.sugarlandmusic.com.
