Britain’s Got Talent held its season finale on Saturday night, ending in the surprise win of Diversity, a group of 11 street dancers from Essex. They beat Susan Boyle, the night’s expected winner, and in the process, Diversity nabbed 100,000 pounds ($159,000) and the chance to perform for Queen Elizabeth II at December’s Royal Variety Show.
As for the fallout from Boyle’s loss, one 21-year-old viewer, Gordon Mackenzie, told the Associated Press "people didn’t bother voting for her because they thought she was going to win it." Scotland’s First Minister, Alex Salmond, was upset about another issue. Talking to BBC’s Radio Five Live, he said, "We’ve got elements of a press who like nothing better than to build people up and then drag them down. It’s pretty sad actually. It’s almost a psychosis."
While she’s reportedly had a hard time dealing with Saturday’s results, Boyle has said she’ll "play it by ear" with the album she hopes to record and release in the coming year.
