According to The Associated Press, songbird Susan Boyle says she is honored and humbled that she will be able to sing for Pope Benedict XVI during his tour of Britain. Su Bo will perform hymns and sing with an 800-strong choir at an open-air papal Mass in Glasgow's Bellahouston Park on September 16, the Roman Catholic Church said. Now that's what I call a nerve-wracking, knee-knocking gig. But I bet Su Bo can handle it.
Boyle, 49, will also sing "I Dreamed A Dream" from Les Miserables, which she sang on Britain's Got Talent, the reality competition series that made her an unlikely star, since she was a dowdy Brit with powerhouse pipes. Boyle told Scotland's The Daily Record newspaper on Wednesday that the invitation to sing for the pope is "my greatest dream come true."
She continued, "I've always wanted to sing for His Holiness and I can't really put into words my happiness that this wish has come true at last. I am humbled and honoured by this invitation and I hope I can do my best." Oh, Sue, I am pretty sure that you will do your best and the Pontiff will love listening to your voice.
Benedict's four-day trip will be the first papal visit to Britain since Pope John Paul II in 1982. So the papacy is overdue to visit Britain.
Boyle will sing for the pope the hymn "How Great Thou Art," as well as a farewell song when the pontiff leaves Glasgow for London.
Isn't Su Bo adorable?
