The recent swine flu scare has caused Fox to cancel the premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine in Mexico. Hugh Jackman also canceled a trip to Mexico to promote the film.

Paramount, too, has nixed its May 8 release of Star Trek in the country. Both films will retain their May 1 and May 8 domestic release dates, respectively.

The studios are now left with the difficult decision about when to release the films in Mexico amid stiff summer competition. There is no indication or guarantee when the health situation will improve, with Mexico City currently under lockdown. Both films were expected to do well in the country. Speculation abounds that swine flu cases in the United States may affect both films' gross intakes.
