Fri, 02 Sep 2016 11:57:16
Some excellent songs from all over the music map premiered this week. Sting returned with his most rock 'n roll sound in years with "I Can't Stop Thinking About You". Prophets of Rage dropped "The Party's Over." Usher announced his new album Hard II Love this week and released three singles, "Missin U", "Champions", and "Rivals".
Florence + The Machine premiered a new track, "Wish That You Were Here", from Tim Burton's upcoming flick Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Devendra Banhart debuted "Saturday Night", which Dev Hynes, aka Blood Orange, quickly called "insufferable". Jack White released an acoustic version of The Raconteurs "Carolina Drama".
Gucci Mane keeps dropping new material, and this week he unveiled "Last Time" [ft. Travis Scott]. Speaking of songs featuring Travis Scott, Ty Dolla $ign put out "3 Wayz". Meanwhile, AlunaGeorge got back into their old-school, R&B grooves with "Mediator". Tokyo Police Club got together with Rostam and produced "My House". And that was only the beginning for a week filled with new music.
Here are our favorites:
Bon Iver - "33 "God"
Another stellar track from Bon Iver's upcoming album 22, A Million was premiered this week. "33, "God"" swerves between personal references and universal understanding, allowing listeners to hear through the lens of Vernon's eyes.
Isaiah Rashad - "Park"
Isaiah Rashad's debut LP, The Sun's Tirade, finally arrived today. "Park" is the second single released from the record, and gives good introspection into the rapper. It is an excellent preview of what to expect from the record.
M.I.A. - "Freedun" [ft. Zayn Malik]
AIM may be M.I.A.'s final album, and it's crazy to think its release is only one week away. This week she revealed another track "Freedun" [ft. Zayn Malik]. It's clear M.I.A. is pretty pumped on herself, and why wouldn't she be?
Sampha - "Blood On Me"
Sampha has been seemingly everywhere the last few years, earning credits on Kanye West's Life of Pablo, Drake's Nothing Was the Same, and most recently on Frank Ocean's Endless. "Blood On Me" shows off his vocal and production skills.
Sylvan Esso - "Radio"
The collaborative duo of Amelia Meath of Mountain Man and Nick Sanborn of Megafaun, Sylvan Esso, will be dropping a new album in 2017. For now they have given us "Radio", and we just can't wait to hear more.
