Taboo of Black Eyed Peas sat down with ARTISTdirect.com to discuss his brand new memoir, Fallin' Up. He said he penned the book in order to share a piece of who he is as an individual with fans and the public. Taboo said that writing was a therapeutic process for him, especially when he recalled stories about his grandmother, who was a strong force that provided strength in his life for many years. Taboo revealed that he found a support system within the band after his grandmother died. No wonder the Peas have such palpable chemistry.
Overall, Taboo said that he wants people to be inspired by and motivated by the book, but even more so, he wants readers to feel hopeful after digesting his story. The pop star admits that the overarching idea behind the book is about dreaming big, but there is also an element of a cautionary tale. He talk about the mistakes that he made while scratching and clawing his way to the top of the pop charts. We'll tell you one thing: it's an engrossing, captivating and educational read. You won't be able to put it down.
Taboo also shows his lighthearted side in this interview, as he talks about breaking his tailbone during a performance, enduring acupuncture and being "violated" in the aftermath. He also shares his story about meeting Prince and being admonished for cursing in Prince's house—he said "shit," by the way. It's probably one of the funniest stories we've heard in a while and we've heard 'em all.
ARTISTdirect.com editor and Dolor author Rick Florino, who conducted the interview and took me to Benihana last night, says this of the book, "It's a riveting, real, and righteous memoir that'll bring you closer than ever to Taboo and inspire you in the process. It's easily one of the most captivating pieces of non-fiction to come out in recent memory."
I think Rick liked the book…
