Take Aim: Amy Sciarretto vs. American Fangs' Gabe Cavazos
Mon, 20 May 2013 16:25:20
We like to welcome new bands into the Take Aim lair for a Q+A session. We get to know them, you get to know them and they gain some exposure. It's a win-win. We went toe-to-toe with Gabe Cavazos, signer of American Fangs, who are a self-described "diamond in the trash." He sunk his teeth into us. We have the puncture wounds to prove it. The band's self-titled debut is out now, so learn about 'em and go buy it!
Twitter-size your bio. 140 words or characters -your choice- of what we need to know.
We're the American Fangs. We've got a combined physical age of 109. We're a brand new gift for you to unwrap. www.americanfangs.net
If you weren't doing music, you would be...
If I didn't play music I would be a stunt double for Donald Faizon aka Turk from the show Scrubs.
Any non-music hobbies, talents or skills?
I'm actually an accomplished ventriloquist although I try not to parade this talent despite the high demand.
Pick a song from your album and put us in the moment, something we'd only know because you told us.
There are too many moments during the writing and recording of this record to highlight. Each deserves its own spotlight. There are hours of outrageousness and hours up to days of being stuck, neck deep in the process of magnifying what's special about this band. Even if all you see are some sweaty Texas boys thrashing and trashing a stage. Its special. We're the diamond in the trash. People have backed out on us. Stopped responding. People have given up on us. If there was something you wanted to know that only we could tell you it would be that this album almost didn't happen.
Favorite thing about Texas?
The Bill Hicks statue good people in Houston are trying to build.
Will you sink your teeth into some sweaty Texas rock?
