Take Aim: Amy Sciarretto vs. Catey Shaw
Mon, 11 Nov 2013 11:40:25
Today's Take Aim opponent is Catey Shaw, a 21-year-old discovered playing in the subway at 23rd and 5th in NYC! We love raw, organic talent like Shaw's.
Watch her perform "Family" from her CloudsEP on The Queen Latifah Show. We love her angelic voice? Don't you?
Now, check out what she told us as we lobbed our stupidly brilliant questions at her.
Twitter-size your bio -- your choice of 140 words or characters, if you want to get technical-- and tell us everything we need to know! GO!
Subway performer, oil painter, lovebird owner and ukulele player, Catey Shaw will blow your mind with her indie pop stylings ;) #justlivinthedream.
If you were not doing music, you would be…
...homeless and sad.
Any non-music hobbies, talents or skills?
I went to SVA [School of Visual Arts] for a bit studying painting - visual art has been a passion of mine as long as I can remember. The artwork for the Clouds EP was from a piece of mine, actually.
Pick ONE song from your record and share a writing or recording story. Something intimate, that you haven't told anyone else (or at least a bunch of writers or journalists) and that which puts us in the moment with you. Let's get intimate, shall we?
Writing 'Selfish Love' (which has only been released as a 'raw session' on YouTube) was really intense for me. I basically cried through the whole thing. This was a co-write with Stori James and Jay Levine, both of whom got to hear every detail of my fragile relationship at the time. We couldn't get anything close to a final vocal that day thanks to my sobbing session, but people like 'Selfish Love,' I think, because of that real emotional honesty.
Finish this sentence: Catey Shaw is the artist that...
...is really awful at answering questions about herself.
We love her! Do you? Get more info on Catey on her Facebook page and follow her on Twitter!
