Amy Sciarretto invited the lovely and talented Esthero to engage in a Take Aim Q+A. Esthero was ever gracious (and we love that she appears to love animals) and we're happy she participated and joined the ranks of Take Aim subjects.

Esthero spoke about Everything Is Expensive, her new album, and shared the secret to life. It involves...butter!

If you were not doing music, you would be...
Hopefully something official like swimming with dolphins, or being in charge of puppies.

Do you have any non-musical talents, skills or hobbies?
Assuming i have to keep it family friendly here.... I love to cook, and I'm pretty decent at it. I'm Canadian, so cooking for me basically means I make sculptures out of butter. Butter is the secret to life. I love to eat, especially with friends. Thankfully, I also like to hike.

Everything is Expensive - what a great title! Can you expand a little on it? Is it your statement on our consumerist culture, either positive or negative?
Thank you! Everything is Expensive is more a musing about how everything desired in this life comes at a price. For example, the three most common desires: Love, money, power. Love can cost you your heart; money can cost you your friends; power, your soul if you're not careful. The song itself explores the price of notoriety, and a general epidemic of complacence... settling for mediocrity over authenticity. Anywho, bottom line is everything has a price in this life except for one thing. There's one thing that's always free and on top of that - freeing, and that's gratitude, sister.

Pick ONE song on the album and share a writing or recording story.
During the recording of this album, my friend and engineer Franny and I pulled a lot of late nights together in session, much of them spent in delirium. We once spent hours mixing a song wearing Luchador masks the entire time.

Can you give us the Esthero bio, Twitter-sized. 140 words of what we NEED to know!

I was born and raised around a lot of open space and trees. My parents worked really hard and did their best. I have two brothers. I believe in the power of: love, words, intent, hugs. I have a nearly boundless capacity for compassion, and it is one of my favorite qualities about myself and one I am drawn to in others. My favourite place to put my face is on my dog's belly. I protect and defend those I love with voracity. I am a lover, therefore I am a fighter. I have experienced both feelings of deep connection to the world, and also of profound loneliness. I love salty/sweet things....both food and people. My favourite smells are: night blooming jasmine, my dog Oboe, 'sweet woods' by sensuous beauty, my mom, egyptian musk.

Yeah, we pretty much love Esthero like a fat kid loves cake.

Will you check out Everything is Expensive?
