Tue, 11 Nov 2014 17:36:41
It's Take Aim time and today's lucky opponent is Generation of Vipers, a rock band that is similar to Helmet, Unsane and other noiseniks that we lurve. We were "snakebitten" by vocalist/guitarist Josh Holt. Their album Coffin Wisdom is out now on Translation Loss Records.

Formed in 2004 in East Tennessee. We are a power trio that play loud and aggressive music. RIYL: Helmet, Unsane, Amebix, abstract punk/metal.
If you were not doing music, you would be…
Probably doing something related to film.
Any non-music hobbies, talents or skills?
Our bass player Travis Kammeyer is an extremely talented sound engineer. He owns Fahrenheit Studios in Johnson City, Tennessee and does live sound, as well. Drummer Billy Graves is a mailman and spends a lot of time outside running and hiking. I am a graphic artist and printmaker.
Pick ONE song one your record and share a writing or recording story. Something intimate, that you haven't told anyone else (or at least a bunch of writers or journalists) and that which puts us in the moment with you. Let's get intimate, shall we?
The song 'You Deserve This' was partly written and recorded on a cell phone between Belgium and Tilburg while I (Josh) was in Europe earlier this year. The bells you hear at the end of the song were recorded outside of a church at Roadburn Festival while I was walking around trying to clear my head find some food away from the massive crowds.
There were all these mothers with strollers just looking at me like I was crazy, standing there trying to capture enough usable audio. I recorded a rough demo of the song at home and then showed it to Billy and Travis, thinking they would hate it, but when they put their touches on it, the song really came to life. Travis and I had our good friend Meghan Mullhearn of Divine Circles come in and track her violin over everything and just told her to have free reign over it. We wanted her to do whatever she was hearing in her head before we threw any sort of suggestions out and she nailed it without any guidance from us. All of those tracks you hear are first takes! It has quickly become one of our favorite songs on the album, but started as a crude idea I had while changing my guitar strings!
Finish this sentence: Generation of Vipers is the artist that…
...you may not have heard of, but should.
