Take Aim: Amy Sciarretto vs. Jim Breuer
Tue, 10 Dec 2013 16:10:18
Today's Take Aim opponent is comedian Jim Breuer, a metal-loving funny guy who does the best impression of Metallica's Lars Ulrich that we've ever seen. His And Laughter for All DVD is out now and he is working on his metal comedy album. He also has a Christmas single out.
Who doesn't love Christmas x Comedy?
We ditched the usual Take Aim questions today since, well, he's Jim Breuer for God's sake. We like to show some respect.
You can check out the song at officialjimbreuer.com.
And Laughter for All -- the title immediately made us think Metallica and ...And Justice for All.
Yes! It's for all metal fans, you know, right away that it's a little tongue-in-cheek. I got the nod from them, it's awesome. The reason I did this? Every metal fan can watch this, since the first 10 minutes is about bringing my wife to see Slayer. You can watch the rest of it and not like metal or not have kids, and it will make you want to have kids and laugh! The ending, the whole taint story, there is not one demographic who would go, 'That's not for me.' There is something for everyone, but it has the metal edge with And Laughter for All. I was going to name it Something for Everybody.
You have a Christmas song "Santa Claus Ain't Coming to Town," too.
The whole goal of the song and the record I'm making is something I've been thinking about for 15 years. I have talked with [Mötley Crüe drummer] Tommy Lee and [Metallica frontman] James Hetfield about this. I've been doing this forever, but now I know how to perfect it. Now I have a producer who gets. I have managers who get this. I've been going mad for 15-20 ideas with these ideas in my head and now to frame 'em? Not everyone will be a fan. But people like you and me, who grew up going to metal and hard rock concerts are going to love this.
I have kids. They are bored when I put on [Iron] Maiden and Dio. They are 14, 11, and 9. They can't stand it! I cannot take it personally. [Metal] doesn't hit them the way it hit me. However, some of the new bands are good. I love Avenged Sevenfold, Five Finger Death Punch. Their licks... are good. I wanted to do this Christmas song since I hear metal bands with Christmas songs. They rock out 'Jingle Bells.' I wanted to do a 'If you don't straighten up, Santa's not coming' song. It's very metal. I don't care if it gets bigs. I feel so good about this. I feel so good. The music is good.
I've been waiting for this song to come out every year. It never does. Now it is.
And you also have a heavy metal comedy album on deck from Metal Blade Records. What's the status?
We're in the studio in January. It's the same producers as on the Christmas song. We're booking some metal tours and festivals in Germany and England, and American ones, too. The album should be done by end of January.
If you could duet with one metal band, who would it be?
Rob Halford. Judas Priest. I'm going to his house. He's doing stuff. Me and him are doing stuff. I already know the song. Every time I see him, that is the dream. I know the song. If I get to have a song where I was with the Metal God, I will hang up my shirt. He hasn't agreed...yet. I want to wait till the song is done and then reach out and see if he will do it. He will. I've been greasing him for years.
