Kerretta's Will Waters participated in an interrogation at the hands of ARTISTdirect News Editress Amy Sciarretto. He wasn't sorry to be subjected to five, rapid-fire questions about the New Zealand band's new album Saansilo or why they only now elected to reveal their faces to the press. Find out all about the instrumental Kerretta and Waters' sense of humor in the space of five easy questions now.
Why did you decide to "show your face" to America just now with press photos? Time magazine bought the rights to all our images. I heard it's a cover story on the most important bands of 2011. They must have a few corrupt reporters that smuggled a few photos out?
Why so camera-shy?
Oh there are heaps of photos, we just don't own them now...what we do own is limos, private jets and mansions by the sea.
What are some of the challenges unique to being instrumental? Ever think of adding a vocalist?
We will at some stage...Kerretta's sound is always evolving so we are always looking for new ways to be invigorated. Eventually working with a vocalist may well be part of that. Though it would be more a collaboration than someone joining the band...
What is your favorite song on Saansilo and why?
It always changes. "Bloodlines" because it's so different for us but my favorite right now is "Halls to Wherever." It's been playing on the radio quite a bit recently hearing it out of the context of the album really does strengthen its identity as a piece music...
Any non-music skills or hobbies?
I'm a bass player who has decided to learn drums. My drumming is not very musical. Not very skilled... and for the sake of world peace, it will always remain a hobby.
Finish this sentence: The one thing people need to know about Kerretta is:
there are no synths!
