Take Aim: Amy Sciarretto vs. Madball's Freddie Cricien
Thu, 17 Jul 2014 15:14:29
Today's Take Aim opponent is Madball singer Freddie Cricien! They are one of my fave bands of the NYHC scene and it is with much love and respect that I invite F. Cricien to verbally kick my ass in the space and confines of this column. He is a truly awesome dude and frontman.
The band's latest album is Hardcore Lives.
Twitter-size your bio -- your choice of 140 words or characters, if you want to get technical-- and tell us everything we need to know! GO!
Call us what you will, but you can't say we're not genuine in every aspect of our lives. We're loved by some, hated by few, but respected by many. We are MB NYHC..lives!!
If you were not doing music, you would be...
An inmate at an upstate New York correctional facility; fortunately for me, the music is working out.
Any non-music hobbies, talents or skills?
Fishing, soccer, boxing, but most importantly playing with my son. Does that count as a skill or talent?!
It does. Pick ONE song on your record and share a writing or recording story. Something intimate, that you haven't told anyone else (or at least a bunch of writers or journalists) and that which puts us in the moment with you. Let's get intimate, shall we?
You want to light a candle or something since we're getting intimate here?? I mean, I don't know ya but it's cool...Hmmm, not sure how 'intimate' this story is but no one has heard it that's for sure. I was writing 'My Armor' and I was thinking this track would be good for [H2O singer] Toby [Morse] to get on, since I had him in mind for a verse. Anyway, I was wondering how I could incorporate him into an MB song and have it be cool for everyone involved. I was listening to a rough track with no vocals, of course. Then some H2O lines popped into my head and that's how I came up with the chorus; by basically stealing H2O's melody or cadence and changing the lyrics and some other things around a bit! But I think it's still very MB as well. I just thought, 'Let me borrow that line because it fits on many levels, topic wise, Toby's style, etc. The most intimate part of this story, though, is the fact that Toby is one of my oldest and dearest buds and we finally got did an MB track together....Isn't that cute??!
So cute! Finish this sentence: Madball is the artist that...
...Put the HARD back in Hardcore.
Madball have been going strong for what feels like ever, despite ups, downs, label changes, scene changes, etc. What is the ONE thing that keeps you doing this?
Madball forever, yo!
Are you down with Madball?
